COSMOLOGICAL WONDERLAND: THE FILMS OF MATTHEW SILVER

Presented by Jeff Krulik
An evening years in the making, cult documentarian Jeff Krulik (HEAVY METAL PARKING LOT, OBSESSED WITH JEWS, I CREATED LANCELOT LINK) joins us to celebrate the truly unique achievements of underground cinema’s clown prince, Matthew Silver. This retrospective features the certifiable underground classic MOTHER AND SON, bewildering selections from the early years (BEWARE THE HOT DOG PEOPLE, DISCO MAN), and the latest, astonishing collaboration with Bogdan Szabo, IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME. The latter work more than proves that the only filmmaker who could possibly eclipse Matthew Silver…is Matthew Silver.
“Matthew Silver is an artist, a visionary, a cosmological jester, and one of the most uniquely original talents to have emerged from the swamps of Jersey. Every Sunday he’s out on Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn performing under the name Chicken Nuts. He’s the personification of a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma – and he’s also one heck of a filmmaker.” –Jeff Krulik
“Matthew’s shorts are hard to describe, but if you like the absurdity of The Kipper Kids, the chaotic onslaught of Shinya Tsukamoto’s TETSUO: THE IRON MAN, the ‘wtf?’ of John Boorman’s ZARDOZ, and the low-budget, gritty, awkwardness of the Kuchar Brothers, imagine all of those elements magnified and drawn out for 90 minutes.” –Skizz Cyzyk, MARYLAND FILM FESTIVAL/MICROCINEFEST
