NARROW MARGIN MAGAZINE PRESENTS: LUC MOULLET AND VITTORIO COTTAFAVI

August 11 – August 14

August 11-14, 2025

“We’ll get there just as fast talking” –THE NARROW MARGIN (Richard Fleischer, 1952)

Hailing from the borderless country of cinephilia, Narrow Margin is a quarterly magazine dedicated to exploring the great artists, critics, and works of an under- and mis-appreciated cinema. Issue #1 focuses on Luc Moullet and Vittorio Cottafavi, heroes of this cinema both as thinkers and filmmakers. It features unpublished translations of texts by and about the pair, alongside new writing, a roundtable discussion, and an interview with Moullet himself.

To mark the publication of the inaugural issue of Narrow Margin, and on the occasion of a rare visit to NYC by Luc Moullet himself – in town for a major retrospective of his own films at Film at Lincoln Center – we’ll be presenting a selection of films chosen by Moullet and the editors of Narrow Margin, including two rarely-screened works by Cottafavi. Moullet will appear in person at Anthology on Tuesday, August 11 to present King Vidor’s THE FOUNTAINHEAD, the subject of his book “Le Rebelle de King Vidor” (2009).

Guest-programmed by Luc Moullet, Benjamin Crais, Joshua Peinado, and Liam Kenny. For more info about Narrow Margin visit: https://narrowmargin.film/

Special thanks to Luc Moullet; Benjamin Crais; Liam Kenny; Joshua Peinado; Edward McCarry (Cinema Guild); Dan Sullivan (Film at Lincoln Center); Andrea Borgia (Rai Teche); and Chris Chouinard (Park Circus).

The Luc Moullet retrospective – the most comprehensive in the U.S. to date, with screenings of many works that have been undistributed and unavailable for decades – will take place at Film at Lincoln Center from August 8-14. A collaboration with Cinema Guild, the series will include new restorations of all of his feature films, plus numerous shorts programs. For more details visit: https://www.filmlinc.org/
