MARJORIE CAMERON

September 3 – September 4

September 3-4, 2025

The artist and occultist known as Cameron (Marjorie Cameron, 1922-95) was extraordinary both for her own work and for her involvement with a truly mind-boggling array of 20th century figures and cultural movements, from rocket scientist Jack Parsons and fellow occultist Aleister Crowley to west coast filmmakers and artists including Kenneth Anger, Wallace Berman, Curtis Harrington, and others. Cameron’s bewitching but rarely exhibited drawings and paintings, which often played a role in the rituals she conducted, are currently on view at Nicole Klagsbrun’s gallery. On the occasion of that exhibition, Anthology presents screenings of the two films Cameron made with filmmaker Curtis Harrington – the portrait film THE WORMWOOD STAR (1956) and the feature NIGHT TIDE (1963), which provided Dennis Hopper with his first starring role – as well as a short documentary by Edward Silverstone Taylor which includes glimpses of Cameron, Berman, and other of her peers. These films will be joined by a later work, Craig Baldwin’s 2008 collage film MOCK UP ON MU, which stars Michelle Silva as Cameron.
