ALLEN GINSBERG CENTENNIAL

June 6-30, 2026

This summer, Anthology joins forces with the Allen Ginsberg Estate to mark the centennial of the legendary writer, Beat luminary, counter-cultural giant, poet-ambassador to the culture at large, and longtime presiding figure of the East Village. Throughout June, we’ll be presenting screenings of a wide variety of films that Ginsberg participated in directly, as actor, narrator, presiding spirit, or inspiration, or that have chronicled his life and work. The series includesseminal Beat or underground films such as PULL MY DAISY (Robert Frank & Alfred Leslie,1959), GUNS OF THE TREES (Jonas Mekas, 1962), and WHOLLY COMMUNION (Peter Whitehead, 1965); rarely-screened gems like EMOUNA (Pamela Mayo, 1973) and AH! SUNFLOWER (Iain Sinclair & Robert Klinkert, 1967); and a host of documentaries that either center on Ginsberg in particular or chronicle various dimensions of 20th century American poetry in general (and which inevitably feature memorable appearances by Ginsberg). The series will also feature introductions and discussions with poets, filmmakers, and artists who worked with or alongside Ginsberg.

Special thanks to Peter Hale (Allen Ginsberg Estate); Costanzo Allione; Jerry Aronson; Iain Sinclair; Colin Still; Steven Taylor; Anne Waldman; Lori Bandazian (Netflix); Rebecca Cleman, Karl McCool, and Jooyoung Park (EAI); Anjelica James (WNET); Marc Mauceri (First Run Features); Benn Northover; Liz Phillips (Hoover Institution Archives at Stanford University); and Elena Rossi-Snook (New York Public Library).
